What makes chip seal paving different?
The main difference in chip seal paving is the method used to apply it. The process uses the same materials as asphalt, but the order they are applied differs. First, a thin layer of hot asphalt is spread on the surface. Secondly, the “chips” or small aggregates are spread on top of the hot asphalt. Then, the chips and asphalt are compressed to ensure strong adherence of the substances. Once the two are compressed, any excess stone is swept off the surface. Once the paving is complete, you’ll still be able to see the small rock pieces. The surface is rougher providing more traction for vehicles.
